It is an unfortunate truth that cancer affects us all. Here at Cherrywood we lost our founder, Dawn Hall, to ovarian cancer, and Nathania, our Director of Sales & Marketing, is a breast cancer survivor. When ByAnnie invited us to participate in their Sew Pink initiative, we knew that we needed to help bring awareness to cancers that affect women and AFAB people specifically. We took inspiration from the cancer ribbons for women's reproductive cancers.

To this we added pink for breast cancer awareness (though it is important to not that people of any gender can develop breast cancer). Karla's forthcoming Zipper Pillow pattern seemed the perfect project to showcase both Cherrywood's beautiful fabric and ByAnnie's famous zippers.

We started by selecting colors to match the ribbons. Then we cut our pieces to size. To the contrast panels, we added Bosal Stitch & Steam and sewed evenly spaced vertical lines.

The steam causes the Stitch & Steam to contract, creating a crinkle effect.

Soon all three contrast panels were done and it was on to assembling the pillow top.

The contrast panels were trimmed and applied to the background, then it was time to add zippers and sew the backing. This project sews up so fast and is a wonderful way to showcase Cherrywood and ByAnnie together.
