Barn Quilts of Stevens County, Minnesota, and the people who live here
Written by Ward Voorhees of Morris, Minnesota
(Cherrywood owner, Karla Overland, is Ward's youngest daughter)
110 pages - Over 115 barn quilts
Ward is a retired Soil Scientist, Master Gardener, and pillar of the community. Always a visionary, Ward did not slow down in his retirement--
2017: Ward hosted a Barn Quilt Event at his home to unveil his three newly installed barn quilts. The huge garden and fences were decorated with Cherrywood quilts. Karla's oldest son, Isaac, did the grand un-veiling. The turn-out was so enthusiastic that Ward decided to organize a Barn Quilt Trail.
2024: At the tender age of 88, Ward decided that he should write a book about the experience of creating the trail. He wanted to share some insight of the PEOPLE who painted or commissioned these pieces. Hence, the subtitle.
Daughter Karla provided the design work and publishing. Grandson Isaac provided the photography. Ironically, Isaac is now the "caretaker" of the Voorhees farmstead where Ward's collection of 13 barn quilts brings delight to passing travelers.
(Stay tuned for an original barn quilt by Ward to pop up on the Cherrywood building!!)
